The Stamps Quartet
The Stamps Quartet was originally formed in 1924. This quartet boasts the longest history of any Gospel quartet. V. O. Stamps was the first to introduce “southern style Gospel singing” across America.
The original Stamps Quartet was the first to record Gospel songs for a major recording company. The “Victor” label, “Give The World A Smile”, became the theme song for the Stamps Quartet and just under one “million” copies were sold.
The perseverance and originality of the first Stamps Quartet enabled the Gospel music industry to immediately increase in popularity. They were the “first” white Gospel group to record for a major recording company and in turn, their success with the recording of “Give The World A Smile”, opened recording opportunities for other quartets. Quartet style and music has changed with time, but the work of early pioneers paved the roads for Gospel music today.
In 1971, The Stamps Quartet started performing regularly with Elvis Presley on many recordings and concerts as back-up artists until Elvis’ untimely death in 1977.
Elvis was known the world over by his first name. He is regarded as one of the most important figures in the twentieth century popular culture. Elvis had charm, talent, good looks and humor that endeared him to millions, as did the human kindness he demonstrated throughout his life. Elvis’s musical influence in pop and country music of the day - but it was the Gospel music he heard in church and at the all-night Gospel singings he frequently attended as a teenager that really made the impact on his life. By 1956 Elvis was an instant sensation.
Elvis, who called The Stamps his favorite singers, once said that, “Ed Enoch, lead singer of the Stamps Quartet - had the most powerful and best lead voice in Gospel music”. Ed’s proficiency in Elvis music has resulted in a long – and professional friendship with the management of Graceland and Elvis Presley Enterprises, Memphis, TN., and SEG Events, Sherman Oaks, California, who frequently call on his talents for concerts and special events.
The Stamps Quartet was the first Gospel – professional quartet to sing world-wide via television - by satellite on Elvis Presley’s - “Aloha From Hawaii” video. The Stamps also appeared in Elvis’s video and, television special, “Elvis On Tour,” and Elvis –He Touched Me, videos.
The Stamps Quartet is also credited as being one of the greatest success stories in the Gospel music industry. The Stamps are known as being the best “professional” Gospel quartet with a distinctive “full-sound”. In terms of harmony, diction, syncopation, repertoire, and appearance, The Stamps Quartet is unsurpassed in performance in Gospel and Secular music industry. Their professionalism is truly exemplified as they perform.

The Stamps continue to make recordings, are regularly seen on television and constantly tour the United States, Canada, Hawaii, European and Asian countries performing Gospel, Secular, and Elvis music as only the Stamps Quartet can.
