Where it all began !
Famous "Sun Studio", Memphis, TN - where Elvis Presley, a shy teenager with a dime-store guitar came into
Sun Studio to play and have fun. Elvis sang "That's All Right" and the rest is history.
Elvis Presley and the Million Dollar Quartet
L/R Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash. Seated at the piano is Elvis Presley.
On December 4, 1956, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins
gathered at Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, for what would be one of the
greatest jam sessions ever.
Elvis Presley, a shy teenager with a dime-store guitar came to Sun Studio to play and have fun.
Elvis sang "That's All Right" and the rest is history.
Jerry Lee Lewis, pounding on the Sun Studio keyboard like a wild-man, while singing
"Whole Lot of Shaking Going On" and "Great Balls of Fire", Jerry Lee Lewis immediately
became famous and became a legend in Rock n' Roll.
Carl Perkins, at 22 years old, living in a government project, baby on the way, and poor as dirt,
came to Sun Studio with his guitar. In the middle of the night Carl wrote, "Blue Suede Shoes"
on the only thing he had - an empty potato sack. Sun Studio released "Blue Suede Shoes", and
it went to the top of the charts. Carl's life was changed forever. Blue Suede Shoes became one of
Elvis Presley's top recordings.
Johnny Cash, was sitting on the stoop of Sun Studio and he said, "I'm Johnny Cash, and I want you to hear me play". With a voice like Johnny's, who could say no. Johnny said one night they all were
talkin' about runnin' around and Johnny said, "not me buddy.....I walk the line."
Johnny wrote the song that same night, and "I Walk The Line" hit the top of " Pop and Country" charts.
